Disability insurance helps protect your income if you are unable to work due to a non‑work‑related illness, injury, pregnancy, or medical condition. MTM offers Short‑Term Disability (STD) and Long‑Term Disability (LTD) coverage through Aflac to provide financial support during both short‑term recovery and extended medical leave.
Aflac’s Care Managers are licensed, master’s-level social workers whose mission is making your life easier when you’re sick or hurt. They help you find access quickly to useful resources that address your unique situation while working closely with our life and disability claims team and clinical specialists.
Basic Life Insurance & Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
What This Coverage Provides
- Basic Life Insurance pays a benefit to your designated beneficiary in the amount of 1x your annual salary up to $250,000 at no cost to you should you pass away while actively employed by MTM.
- Basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) provides an additional 1x your annual salary up to $250,000 if death or certain serious injuries occur as a result of a covered accident.
Eligibility & Waiting Period
- Coverage begins after you have satisfied the eligibility waiting period associated with MTM benefits
- Enrollment is typically automatic once you become eligible—you do not need to elect this coverage during enrollment
Who Pays
- MTM pays 100% of the cost for Basic Life and Basic AD&D coverage
Beneficiary Designation
Life insurance benefits are paid directly to the beneficiary on file—not through a will. Keeping your beneficiary information up to date ensures benefits are paid quickly and according to your wishes.
- You must designate a beneficiary to receive the life insurance proceeds

What This Coverage Provides
Supplemental Employee Life Insurance allows you to purchase additional life insurance for yourself, beyond the basic coverage provided by MTM. As a newly eligible employee, you can add supplemental life coverage without answering health questions.
- You can add $10,000 amounts up to the guarantee issue of $100,000 for yourself.
You may be able to add amounts higher than the guarantee issue by answering a few simple health questions.
Eligibility & Waiting Period
- Available after you have met the same eligibility waiting period as other MTM benefits
- You must be actively employed and eligible for benefits to enroll
Who Pays
- You pay 100% of the cost of supplemental coverage through convenient payroll deductions
Where can I find the cost of Supplemental Life Insurance?
Supplemental life insurance rates are based on your age and the amount of coverage you elect. As your age or coverage level increases, the cost of coverage may also change. During enrollment, Workday will automatically calculate your rates based on your selections, allowing you to review the cost per pay period before finalizing your elections. You can view detailed rate information directly in Workday as part of the benefits enrollment task, making it easy to understand and choose the coverage that best fits your needs.

Short‑Term Disability (STD)
What STD Covers
Short‑Term Disability provides income replacement when you are temporarily unable to work due to a qualifying medical condition. This coverage helps you manage everyday expenses while you focus on healing and returning to work.
Benefit Amount
- Replaces 66 2/3% of your normal weekly income
- Maximum weekly benefit: $2,000
Waiting Period
- Benefits begin after 14 consecutive days of disability
Length of Coverage
- Benefits continue for up to 11 consecutive weeks, as long as you remain eligible under the plan
Who Pays
- MTM pays the full cost of STD coverage
- No payroll deductions are required for this benefit
