MTM 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan
Planning for retirement is an exciting step toward your future. At MTM, we’re here to support you with the tools and benefits that help you feel confident and prepared. Explore resources in the 401(k) savings plan, to make the most of your long‑term financial wellness and ensure a smooth transition into your next chapter.
Why Saving for Retirement Matters
Saving regularly in your 401(k) is one of the most effective ways to prepare for your future. Contributing even a small amount now can grow significantly over time through compound interest. Your 401(k) helps you:
- Build long‑term financial stability
- Prepare for life after full‑time work
- Take advantage of tax‑advantaged savings
- Stay in control of your financial wellness
Whether you’re just starting your career, planning for retirement, or somewhere in between, the MTM 401(k) plan gives you the tools to stay on track.
To participate in MTM’s 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan with John Hancock, employees must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
- Are an active MTM employee
- You are at least age 21
- Have completed two months of service
Certain groups are excluded from eligibility as follows:
- Temporary employees
- Interns
- Contractors
- Employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement (unless the agreement includes 401(k) participation)
When You Can Enroll
Your Entry Date will be the first day of the month following the date you satisfy the eligibility requirements.
- You may enroll at any time
- Contributions will begin on the next available payroll cycle after you complete enrollment through John Hancock.
Why This Matters
Becoming eligible is an important milestone—joining the plan early helps you take full advantage of tax‑advantaged savings and long‑term retirement growth.
401(k) Contributions and MTM’s Matching Benefits
MTM’s 401(k) plan gives you flexible options to save for retirement in a way that fits your financial goals. You can choose to contribute pre‑tax, Roth (after‑tax), or a combination of both—up to the annual IRS contribution limits.
How You Can Contribute
- Pre‑Tax Contributions: Your contributions are deducted before federal taxes, which lowers your taxable income today. You’ll pay taxes when you withdraw the money in retirement.
- Roth (After‑Tax) Contributions: Your contributions are made after federal taxes now, and qualified withdrawals in retirement are tax‑free, including earnings.
You can switch or adjust your contribution rate at any time.
Annual IRS Limits
Each year, the IRS sets the maximum amount employees can contribute to a 401(k).
- For employees under age 50: You can contribute up to the annual IRS limit.
- For employees age 50 or older: You can make additional catch‑up contributions on top of the regular limit, allowing you to save even more as you approach retirement.
MTM’s Matching Contribution
MTM supports your retirement savings by matching your contributions:
- 100% match on the first 3% you contribute
- 50% match on the next 2% you contribute
This means if you contribute 5%, MTM contributes a total 4% match to your account.
Immediate Vesting Through Safe Harbor
- MTM’s match is a safe‑harbor contribution, which means it is 100% vested immediately.
- Every dollar MTM contributes belongs fully to you right away—there’s no waiting period and no vesting schedule.
Why This Matters
Saving early and consistently—especially with MTM’s match—helps your money grow over time through compounding. Whether you are building a strong foundation or preparing for retirement in the near future, these features give you powerful tools to support your long‑term financial security.
Ready to start saving?
To begin the process, log into the John Hancock website and create your own personal account. From there, you’ll need to decide:
- How much you’d like to contribute
- Which type of contributions you’d like to use (pre-tax or Roth)
- Which investments you’d like to invest in
- Who you’d like to name as your beneficiaries
Once you make these basic decisions, your deductions will begin typically with the next pay period following the processing of your enrollment.
